philosophy

Children learn best through play & hands-on exploration. Teachers provide a safe and enriching environment to allow children to grow and learn in their own unique way.

curriculum

Open-ended, child-led play:
Research shows that play is the best way for children to learn and develop critical academic, social/ emotional,  and life skills. We provide children with spaces and materials to play in ways initiated by them. Teachers serve as facilitators during play to scaffold children's learning.

Project work:

When children demonstrate interest in specific topics, we will encourage and facilitate deep exploration in those topics. Children will learn to brainstorm, ask question, plan activities and field visits, & reflect on their learning.

Field Trips:

Visits to the nearby park are common. When children are interested in specific topics, we may plan field visits (in person or virtual) to help the children learn more about the topic.

Academics:

Academic goals and subjects are integrated into daily play &  activities through materials and teacher facilitation. Although  math, science, language & literacy are all vital, social-emotional skills are our highest priority.

t

Group meetings:

Traditionally called "circle time," our group meetings  serve as a time for children to come up with plans for their play and reflect on the activities and events of the day. We will also  use this time to read books, sing songs, play  games, and assign responsibilities for the day.

discipline

The basis of our discipline guidelines is care and respect. Children are first cared for and then provided with guidance on their behaviors. Expectations at our school revolve around being respectful towards each other, materials, living beings, and our planet. We never use punishments or time out as discipline.
